Global Nutrition Virtual Exchange

During my fall semester, I was enrolled in Nutrition. During this time, I was able to participate in a global nutrition exchange with student from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom. We met on zoom a few times throughout the semester and were able to talk to groups in breakout rooms. It was interesting to learn about the different eating habits of the United Kingdom versus the United States. We also had the opportunity to listen to guest speaks from both Indiana and Newcastle University. They presented slideshows about different topics which engaged students in learning. I enjoyed being able to talk to a student from Newcastle University one-on-one to learn more about what the differences between the nutrition where we live.

Key Topics

There was so much that I learned from partaking in the nutrition virtual exchange. I learned that I am able to speak freely to other students around the world, and was able to exchange our viewpoints. I would have never thought that I would be able to experience something like this. To name a few topics that I learned, I was able to talk to my groupmate Eve, and she told me all the different food places in the United Kingdom that we do not have in the United States. We were able to compare and contrast our lifestyles and eating habits. Also, we presented a slideshow about the differences in nutrition in the United States compared to the United Kingdom. Specifically, I learned that even though we are thousands of miles from one another, we share a lot in common. Affordability, taste, and convenience are all things we had in common. We all are college students, so it is expected to share some same characteristics when it comes to the food we eat and why we choose to eat it. Overall, the virtual exchange was very interesting to me. I have thought about studying abroad simply because of this exchange. It has always been interesting to me to learn about the other parts of the world.

Here is my Slideshow from Our Virtual Exchange!
